My Grandpa has collected a bunch of older, classic cars over the years but as he's gotten older he couldn't keep maintaining them so they've all fallen into disrepair. Now, my family over there is looking to sell some of them off but I have the opportunity to put dibs on one or two of them in the case that I could restore them in the future.
I have very limited car knowledge so realistically it's not in the cards for me to solo repair them unless Youtube University could just carry me through the whole process, and that's not even considering paying for parts and equipment. So more than likely, I'd have to just get them professionally repaired. They're currently being stored in a warehouse/shed thing and it's not going anywhere so if I were to dibs one I can store it there for quite a while.
None of the cars are running and all have been sitting in a warehouse/shed for probably 40 years. But other than that there's really no other outstanding issues with them. Exteriors are all in perfect shape and the interiors are in pretty good shape as far as I'm aware. The cars I could inherit are:
1959 Ford Skyliner Galaxie Hardtop retractable convertible
Price estimate: $17,500 as is, doubled if running
1966 Thunderbird convertible
Price estimate: $12,960, doubled if running
1965 Lincoln Continental convertible with suicide doors
Price estimate: $19,000, doubled if running
I live a couple thousand miles away from my Grandpa and I'm in college so I really wouldn't have the time or the resources to do anything with them in the next couple years but I just think it's a great opportunity to be able to get one of these cars handed down to me, especially in the case that I could restore one of them in the future and have it. So really I'm just looking to get second opinions or advice on this situation.
Which cars would be most desirable?
Which, if restored, would be the most functional?
How expensive would each of them be to restore?
Is it even worth going through the whole process of restoring them?
Any specific details worth knowing about the cars?
But yeah, any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
