Hey all, working on my 53 Chevy with a 396.
A couple months back I pulled all the wiring off of my alternator because one of the connectors was corroded so I figured I’d just run new wiring. Since then, I have forgotten exactly how it was ran before…
I know the typical 3 wire way, but that wasn’t how it was set up before I pulled it apart. With all the wiring disconnected from alternator, when I shut the key off the car stays running. I thought that could only be a back feed issue WITH it wired up? Not the case?
I have run from main pos post on alternator to starter solenoid and then jumped the #2 flat blade on alternator to the main post. I haven’t gotten a diode for the wire from #1 terminal to the ammeter to prevent back feed, but I would think if there isn’t any wiring it couldn’t back feed… am I lost here? Do I have another issue?
Thanks guys!
